Mourning Doves in my Bird Houses
The Mourning Dove is one of the most hunted birds in North America, which is quite sad since these birds make a very relaxing, but almost sad sounding calls. Their calls may invoke melancholy feelings, but the noise caused by their wings more often then not annoy people. This is because they make a very sharp whistling sound when they take off. Because whole flocks of Mourning Doves are apt to settle on telephone wires or trees and then fly away all at once, the annoying noise created by all of their wings going into action at once can really be loud.
How can you identify Mourning Doves when they come visit your bird houses? In addition to their sounds, you may want to visually identify them. However, this can be difficult because the Mourning Dove often blends in with their surroundings. They’re usually a brown or tan color with some black spots on their wings and white tips on the ends of their tail feathers.
Looking for Mourning Doves in other places than your wooden bird house? You’ll find them on telephone lines and clothes lines and on the bare ground.
