Strength Training Or Resistance Training Is All The Same

That’s right. When you talk about strength training you are really just talking about weight training. But what exactly is strength training?

Strength training uses the force of resistance of the muscles to build overall strength. Strength training increases not only muscle, but bone density and improve ligament and joint function. Resistance training is really a form of strength training. Here the exercise is performed against a force of resistance. Pushing or pulling against a force, stretching or squeezing against a force is some of the ways resistance isometric exercises are done.

So what types of equipment are there out in the marketplace to get you ready to buy? Well there are free weights such as barbells or you can choose something like a resistance band. If you are a member of a fitness facility there are weight machines. But if you are looking for a lightweight, portable and versatile piece of fitness equipment than you can’t go wrong with a resistance band. These bands allow you to move your exercise in different directions easier than heavy free weights. You can go from a bicep curl to an overhead press to a tricep stretch all in one movement.

Place the resistance band on the floor holding the two ends in your hands. Step on the center of the band and begin your bicep curl. Then stretch your arms upward toward the ceiling and continue the exercise with the overhead press. Now work your arms down behind your head and go back up toward the ceiling doing work on your triceps.
