The European Hornbeam Bonsai is a Special Type of Tree

If you’re looking for an outdoor bonsai tree that’s a bit different from the ordinary, you may want to look at the European Hornbeam Bonsai. It is a more expensive bonsai tree, meaning you will probably only want to purchase a European Hornbeam Bonsai if you are an expert or if you are giving it to an expert bonsai grower. This is because the European Hornbeam, or carpinus betulus, is fairly rare. You won’t see it among the many outdoor bonsai trees that are regularly grown. However, those who do have one of these rare trees will often place them at the center of their gardens.

With an expensive bonsai like the European Hornbeam, you want to make certain that the weather isn’t going to destroy it. Grow this bonsai in a sheltered area, like all bonsai, and make certain that it is well protected from high winds. It should not get direct sunlight, nor should any water be left allowed to stand in the pot if it rains heavily. If the weather turns exceptionally bad, the European Hornbeam can be moved indoors, although it should be kept in a cool garage or other area that doesn’t become too hot.
