The World of Post Caps
Most people don’t know why they need to cover their fence posts with a post cap because they are under the impression that post caps are all about decorations. Though they are decorative, fence post caps protect the top of the post from splitting and cracking from the exposure to the elements. I know this because I learned this the hard way. I hope to help you avoid replacing your fence posts like I had too. I wish it had stopped there but it didn’t. I also had to replace several of the posts on my deck, which proved to be a process in itself.
The post caps I like happen to be the copper post caps. I think they look really good and have always appreciated how copper turns over the years that greenish patina color. They were very easy to install and I did follow all the manufactures instructions on how to seal and care for the caps. It took very little time and looks great. However, knowing the deck and fence posts are protected and that I will never have to change another one out is really the reward.
